DJ JamesOn Saturday after a friend's birthday party we stood in a group contemplating where to head next for some downtown nightlife fun. One friend suggested Rumrunners, and while it wasn't the most popular suggestion, it was eventually agreed upon. I hadn't been to the newly-managed and slightly renovated club for months and wasn't expecting much -- that is, until I spotted a familiar face behind the DJ booth and realized I'd forgotten one of Anchorage's best party patrons, and the reason that people continue to spend hours dancing on the floor of the Fourth Ave. and E Street bar.
DJ James has been in the music scene for nearly 16 years, and ladies - this is one DJ that will play your request. Even if it's the remix to "Party in the USA." He's a solid presence at Rumrunners and spins every night except Sundays (at least, that's what I recall -- let's just say part of Saturday was a blur at best). My favorite thing about DJ James is that he's always dapper -- this is not your ordinary hipster spin-kid. In any case, it's nice to see a nightlife tradition still going strong and I encourage every one of you to try Rumrunner's out if you haven't lately. I realized much of my bias was based on a previous wait staff and space issues as well as the $5 cover -- all of which had changed when I went back.
