Scott Turner Schofield: Photo by Gretchen Weiss / Anchorage Daily NewsAs my audio recorder quit again and again, Scott Turner Schofield took it all in stride. He sat relaxed and amiably smiled as I held back curses. After the disruptions he would immediately return to what we had been discussing, good natured and open.
Schofield is in Anchorage as the guest creative director for Out North, and for his performance, "Debutante Balls." The work is a storytelling adventure about gender, social norms and the spirit of kindness in others. Humor flows through the tales and Schofield’s pleasing nature wraps onlookers into the southern culture of his youth.
The performance runs this weekend, starting at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday as well as 4 p.m. Sunday at Out North Theatre (3800 Debarr Road). Tickets are $20. More info at OutNorth.org.
Schofield was also recently part of a male meat market on ABC's latest reality dating show. Read a Daily News story about "Conveyor Belt of Love" here.
Here's an excerpt of the performance and pieces from the interview.
