Okay, so Smirnoff may not be your favorite vodka. Maybe its label reminds you of the bottom-shelf days when you didn't know what Grey Goose tasted like. But Smirnoff has attempted to counter your reservations in a big way lately, and amped up its image way past the flashy, vibrant Smirnoff Ice.
Smirnoff is releasing a new Signature Mix Series, creating drink recipes using its Green Apple, Raspberry and Blueberry brand vodkas. But that's only the beginning. The recipes are created specifically to complement three new songs and videos by three iconic hip hop stars and producers. And honestly, they might have something really hot. There's nothing like prepping for a big night out with a specially-selected soundtrack to bump around your kitchen to. How great will it be to have a specific song for the drink your sipping?
For example, the first mixed drink is entitled "The Cypha," and its matched with the song "Criminal Minded," which plays on "Hey Jude" and features DJ Premier and KRS One. The Cypha is 1.5 ounces of Smirnoff raspberry with 3 ounces of pineapple juice served over ice. Not complicated, and basically a screwdriver with a twist, but this cocktail has it's own theme music.
For the other creations, Common and Just Blaze create the song "The Light '08," and the drink "The Southside" (green apple Smirnoff and cranberry juice over ice). And Q-Tip and Cool and Dre Cool and Dre mix it up with "Midnight '08," and the drink "The Blueberry Abstract," which includes blueberry Smirnoff and lemonade over ice.
Check out the recipes, artist bios and download the songs and videos at www.smirnoffsignaturemixseries.com."The Light '08" can be downloaded February 26 and "Midnight '08" is available March 4.
