You can't dial the TV or radio to any frequency these days without seeing Paul Wall's icy grill (for the un-hip, that basically means diamond dentures) or hearing the Texas rapper's syrupy vocals.
Soon Anchorage heads will get an up-close look and listen to hip-hop's hottest -- and iciest -- star.
Paul Wall, aka The People's Champ, aka Mr. More Carats Than Bugs Bunny's Lunch, hits Anchorage for a gig Monday, March 20. The show goes down at 8 p.m. at the always crunk Atwood Concert Hall. Tickets are $32-$40, available through CenterTix (www.centertix.net or 263-2787).
Who is Paul Wall? The iced-out rapper's verse stole the show on Mike Jones’ "Still Tippin'," the single that officially put the Houston Screwed & Chopped rap scene on the national map. He also delivered his "Whut it dew?" line, which instantly became hip-hop's newest catchphrase.
Currently, Wall is the co-star of rap's current No. 1 single and the pop chart's No. 3 hit -- Nelly’s "Grillz."
So for all the Anchorage music scene haters who say nothing happens in this town, here you go. Paul Wall's visit means a relevant superstar is actually visiting Anchorage for a show. Don't hate, congratulate and participate!
