Barrow teens discuss substance abuse, suicide awareness

The North Slope Borough Mayor's Arctic Youth Advisory Council based in Barrow is made up of teens who are committed to encouraging positive activities involving youth and strengthening relationships between youth, adults and elders. They are trained to identify and council suicidal youth in one of the largest area school districts in the nation.

In addition to monthly volunteer work, the group creates newsletters to inform their community about alcohol, drug and suicide awareness.

Last month the council was on the radio in partnership with the Health Department to talk about substance abuse.
