A group of Seward middle school students are making the ocean a top priority. The Ocean Sciences Club has produced a video all about what the ocean means to them.
The club, which started in 2012 at the Alaska SeaLife Center, gives students the opportunity to study a wide range of ocean topics such as a seabird necropsy, a comparative dissection of cephalopods, sea ice studies, Steller sea lion physiology, and other hands-on explorations. A mini-grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration provided the club with video cameras to record a year-end message summarizing their relationship to Alaska's marine ecosystems.
