Harsh winters and staggeringly hot summers can take a toll on Fairbanks' buildings. Local Girl Scouts Jordyn Therriault, Jamie Logan and Ciara Newman decided one structure was in dire need of a face lift. As part of their Girl Scouts Alaska Gold Award project, the young women led and assisted in oiling and staining the exterior of the Breast Cancer Detection Center in Fairbanks.
It's been five years since the center has gotten a fresh coat of paint, and with a $10,000 price tag, it isn't an easy fix.
