Young entrepreneur earns scholarship from Summer of Heroes

Sarah Mixsell may only be 11 years old, but she is already making a huge contribution to Alaska youth. Two years ago, Mixsell started the non-profit Alaska Kids for Kids, which encourages Alaska children to dedicate portions of their birthday celebrations to other youth in need.

On her ninth birthday, Mixsell and her friends assembled "birthday parties in a bag" and donated them to Abused Women's Aid in Crisis Center.

Mixsell is a 2013 Alaska Communications Summer of Heroes honoree.
