Youth learn traditional food processing and suicide prevention

A small tribal community in Southeast Alaska is teaching its local youth about traditional food gathering and processing. The Organized Village of Kake on the northwest coast of Kupreanof Island hosted their 25th Culture Camp for middle and high school students.

In addition to learning about local edible plants, hunting, smoking and canning, the two-dozen students also discussed suicide during their week-long stay.
