Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.

Hate a bath? Love a bath? Tolerate a bath?

Some of us have to bathe our dogs more than others, but out of curiousity: How do your dogs deal with being bathed when the time comes?

I ask because 8-year-old Eddie, just this year, has gone from the HATE category to the tolerate category. I never thought it would happen.

For the first 7 years of his life, he sulked before and after. He hid under the bed if he got a hint of what I was up to. He refused treats offered to bribe him during the act. Then he'd run away from me afterward as I was trying to brush him out.

Inexplicably, all that stopped this year. He no longer goes under the bed. Now, he runs to the bedroom and lays on the bed, easily grabbable. Once in the tub, he readily accepts treats during 2 washing rounds, rinses and conditioner. He even tolerates blow-drying, something I never thought would happen.
