Amanda and Brian Walch.On the main roads, you might not notice that there's still large patches of the city without power. But take just a couple turns from Muldoon Road, Raspberry Road or the Old Seward Highway and streets are eerily dark. It's the result of a massive windstorm that hit the Anchorage area late Tuesday. It toppled countless trees and wreaked havoc on power lines.

Late Thursday, many Anchorage residents seemed to be getting by with their good spirits intact. Rachel Weaver made do with many small candles and a large Maglite flashlight aimed at her ceiling. With her laptop charged, she watched an episode of "Game of Thrones." At Cheryl Babbe and Bill Demming's home on Honeysuckle Drive, the entertainment was more analog. She read passages to him by candlelight from the book "(Things) My Dad Says." The hum of generators could be heard in the neighborhood. Across town near Muldoon Road, the noise was much louder and the street much busier. Several Chugach Electric trucks were on the scene and linemen were working late into the night to restore power on Sara Johnston's street. All of these households had just begun their third day without electricity.

Chugach said it has put extra repair crews on the job. Still, some customers could be out of power through the weekend. For much more, see our story here.
