We just got back from a three-night camping trip in Seward over the Fourth. Lots of dogs running around the military campsite, most leashed, some unleashed, but all were well behaved.
Camping, I realized, presents new training opportunities. I had mine in an xpen outside some of the time, and they would occasionally yap when they'd see another dog. I addressed it every time by first investigating, then telling them, "It's OK" followed, if necessary, by a "No Bark" and a hand signal.
It took a couple times, but they figured it out. One bark was allowed, but once I responded they had to shut up. It worked great.
We're heading out for Part II of our trip now -- off to Dawson City. Not taking the dogs this time -- just some "us" time for Kelly and I as we celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
Hope everyone survived the Fourth intact! Any stories to share?
