Marsh Headed Abroad Again (Notes)

Alaska Aces defenseman Tyson Marsh is headed to Europe again.

Marsh, who played in Italy two seasons ago and began last season in the second division in Germany before returning to the Aces, has signed with the Wales-based Cardiff Devils in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Marsh would have been considered an ECHL veteran in the upcoming season. The retirements of captain Brian Swanson and sniper Wes Goldie opened two veteran slots for the Aces for the upcoming season -- ECHL clubs are allowed a maximum of four veterans.

Should they choose to return to the Aces, the club has four players who played for them last season who would be veterans -- defensemen Bryan Miller, Steve Ward and Chad Anderson, and forward Ryan Cruthers. Also gone is center Chris Langkow, whose rights were shipped to the Reading Royals to complete the deal in which the Aces acquired Cruthers at the trading deadline last season.

In other news involving Alaska-connected players, former Aces winger Matt Robinson has re-upped with CHL Wichita. He racked 34 goals for the Thunder last season and 39 goals two seasons ago.

And how about this blast from the past -- former UAA defenseman Duvie Westcott (1997-98), who subsequently transferred to St. Cloud State and then played 201 NHL games, has moved from Kloten of the Swiss League to the Hamburg Freezers of the German Elite League.
