Anniversaries, anyone?

‘Tis the season for anniversaries.

Sunday and Monday we commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Dutch Harbor.

Monday was also the 33rd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Tuesday is the anniversary of the birthday of my friend, Paul, who died last year.

Wednesday is the hundredth anniversary of the Novarupta volcano eruption that wiped out the sun in Kodiak, the Aleutians and the Alaska Peninsula. It’s also the 68th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

Thursday is the 70th anniversary of occupation of Attu by Japanese forces, which led to the capture of Attu villagers and internment of other Aleut villagers by US forces.

Friday is the 45th anniversary of the attack on the USS Liberty.
