Well, that seemed deserved -- the Florida Everblades won the first ECHL Kelly Cup in franchise history with tonight's 3-2 overtime win in Game 5 over the visiting Las Vegas Wranglers.
After dropping the opener in the best-of-7 series, the Everblades rolled through four straight wins to win their first hardware in three trips to the Finals -- Florida lost in 2004 and 2005. (Hopefully, no one writes on of those third-time's-the-charm leads on their story -- but someone probably will; hey, we've all contributed some groaners over the years).
John Muse, the Kelly Cup MVP, racked 41 saves for the Everblades. Brandon MacLean bagged the game-winning strike at 4:54 of OT after Las Vegas fell behind 2-0 in the first period and rallied with a second-period goal and a goal in the opening minute of the third period to get back to even.
The game drew a standing-room-only crowd of 7,290 at Germain Arena.
