Rink Roundup: ECHL Florida Up; Dubinsky Back On Blades, Plus Carle And Williams USHL Notes

Let's take a lap around the rinks.

The Florida Everblades went up 2-1 in the ECHL's best-of-7 Kelly Cup Finals tonight with a 4-3 overtime win against the visiting Las Vegas Wranglers -- Matt Marquardt, who Alaska Aces fans may remember helped eliminate that club in the first round in 2010, when he was with Stockton, authored the OT strike.

In the NHL, New York Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky is back skating for the first time in nearly a month after being out with a lower-body injury. No word when he'll be ready to go, but it is at least encouraging he's back on blades.

In the USHL, the Green Bay Gamblers have hired David Carle of Anchorage as an assistant coach. That's impressive, especially considering Carle is graduating this spring from the University of Denver, where he has served as a student assistant coach the last four seasons. He was an NHL prospect expected to go high in the draft as a defenseman four years ago before a heart condition forced him to give up the game, at least on ice. Great kid (everyone's a kid to The Blog has he creeps into middle age), great family, great news for all of them. David's the younger brother of Philadelphia Flyers blueliner Matt Carle.

Also in the USHL, the Waterloo Black Hawks, backstopped by goaltender Stephon Williams of Fairbanks, fell 3-1 to the Gamblers tonight. That gives Green Bay a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 Clark Cup Finals.
