Tough day for former Alaska Aces in the American Hockey League.
Former Aces coach Brent Thompson, now bench boss for AHL Bridgeport Sound, was hit with a three-game suspension for his actions after last Sunday's 4-3 OT loss to Connecticut, which gave the Whale a three-game sweep of the first-round Calder Cup series. The scoresheet reflects a game misconduct for abuse of officials at game's end -- imagine unkind words were directed at an on-ice official.
Because Bridgeport's season is over, Thompson will serve the three-game ban at the start of next season.
Also, the AHL docked former Aces and Seawolves winger Justin Johnson of Anchorage a game for his actions before Wednesday's playoff loss to Norfolk -- likely for something done in warmups. Second suspension for JJ lately -- he got a three-game ban at the tail end of the regular season.
