The Alaska Aces tonight learned their ECHL Western Conference Finals opponent: The Las Vegas Wranglers.
Las Vegas eliminated Idaho tonight with a 2-1 OT win on Eric Lampe's strike off assists from former Ace Judd Blackwater and Adam Miller -- that's the Wranglers' potent first line.
The Wranglers got 34 saves from Joe Fallon and Jerry Kuhn was once again excellent with 51 saves for the Steelheads.
No word yet on when the Alaska-Las Vegas series opens, but The Blog believes it is a decent bet to start Friday at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage because 1) The Aces own home-ice advantage and no doubt want weekend dates to pump up the crowd; and 2) That's when the Eastern Conference semis between Kalamazoo and Florida open; plus 3) It gives the Wranglers and Aces both ample time off; and, lastly, 4) The ECHL previously told The Blog the dates for the conference finals were April 27 (that's Friday) through May 9.
The Blog expects there will be an announcement of dates and times for the best-of-7 series on Monday.
