The story going around today about the Alabama football team's BSC trophy getting accidentally knocked off a case and smashed prompted ESPN to do a round-up of other trophies that have been damaged.
And so it was The Blog was walking through his living room -- ESPN News was on the TV -- and heard Scott Van Plet describe other trophy incidents, and mention Alaska Aces winger Chris Bruton, who captained the Spokane Chiefs to the 2008 Memorial Cup as champions of major-junior hockey. If you didn't know, Bruton dropped the Cup, though to be fair, the Cup fell apart in his hands, which led to the drop.
Alas, Van Pelt identified Bruton as "Chris Burton.'' Ah, well, perhaps there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Anyhow, click here to check out video of Bruton’s faux pas.
Bonus: The broadcaster talking about the Chiefs organ-I-zation.
