KTUU names award-winning journalist as news director

Tracy SaboTracy SaboAnchorage – Veteran CNN Senior Producer Tracy Sabo today was named News Director of KTUU-TV’s Channel 2 News operation.

Sabo, currently based in Dallas, has an extensive 19-year career at CNN producing both domestic and international coverage for the 24-hour news channel, as well as holding the positions of National Assignment Editor and CNN Radio Anchor at the network’s Atlanta headquarters.

As Channel 2 News director, Sabo will lead a team of journalists and technical support that produce 20-hours of newscasts each week. Channel 2 News reaches 78 percent of the news viewers in the market with newscasts redistributed to over 244 rural Alaska communities each day via broadcast, satellite and cable.

Sabo also will oversee Channel 2’s online news distribution and mobile platforms.

“Channel 2 News has a tremendous reputation, both inside and outside of Alaska, for its comprehensive news coverage. KTUU’s newsgathering style parallels my work at CNN in many ways, and I look forward to advancing and enhancing the great tradition of news excellence at Channel 2,” Sabo said.

Sabo has been on a number of CNN teams recognized for journalistic achievement, including three prestigious George Foster Peabody Awards for coverage of the Gulf Oil Spill (2010), Presidential Primary and Debates (2008) and Hurricane Katrina (2005).
