This blog is for all parents; those in the traditional workforce, those who work from home, and those who work at home. Join our conversations about balancing the needs of family with the demands of work, discovering resources and activities around Alaska, and opening a dialogue about the perks and challenges of parenthood. One of our three contributors emphasizes teen and family issues. We welcome your comments but please keep them on point and civil. Avoid personal attacks and the use of profanity.

While most people go up in square footage, we’re going down. Our family mission is to live simply without a bunch of “stuff.” The new house is part of this mission to downgrade. The time has come to get rid of things, lots of things.

Luckily, a friend of mine is organizing an event where parents can sell their gently used children’s and baby clothing. It’s called the Mom 2 Mom Sale where more than 50 sellers will bring their gently used gear to one place. Shoppers will have a large selection of clothing, toys, strollers, car seats and other gear. There will be some high-end, name brand clothes for sale, as well. Additionally, local businesses will be there with kid friendly products.

For those (like me) that need to clean out the closets, you can reserve a table to sell your items. If you don’t have enough to fill a table, you can partner with other parents. The event is stroller friendly, will have a fully staffed coffee bar (we all need that) and food table.

Here’s to downgrading, simplifying and recycling kid stuff. See you there!
