Two longtime UA employees promoted

The University of Alaska System has promoted two longtime UA employees.

Erika Van Flein, formerly benefits administrator for UA Human Resources, has been named director of benefits. She replaces Mike Humphrey, who recently left the System Office to serve as executive officer for UAA Chancellor Tom Case.

Brandi Berg, formerly assistant to Board of Regents’ Executive Officer Jeannie Phillips, has been named to Phillips’ post. Phillips recently accepted a position in the UAF Chancellor’s Office.

In the benefits position, Van Flein oversees employee benefits administration, including health care, retirement, disability and life insurance, for some 4,600 benefits-eligible employees across the state. The lifelong Fairbanks resident joined the university in 1990, working in University Relations at UAF.

In the regents’ position, Berg serves as primary support staff to the Board of Regents, the 11-member governing body of the UA System. The longtime Fairbanks resident joined UA in 2002, serving first at the UA Foundation and then moving to the regents’ office in 2008.
