From Erika Bolstad in Washington D.C. --
A North Carolina polling firm plans to survey Alaskans this weekend about the Miller-Murkowski-McAdams race.
The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, isn't for any particular client. PPP was just curious about what happened in Tuesday's election, said the company's Tom Jensen. This will be something of an exit poll, but Jensen also told me they wanted to see whether Democrats in Alaska have a shot at the Senate seat or, he said, whether it's just "wishful thinking."
The dynamics of the Senate race changed dramatically for Democrats Tuesday night, when Republican challenger Joe Miller pulled ahead of in Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Ballots are still being counted, but one thing's clear: What was once predicted as a sleepy general election has gotten interesting for Democrat Scott McAdams.
PPP, a Democratic-leaning firm, mostly does telephone automated polling. They're the kind where respondents push a button in response to a pre-recorded question. They have a relatively good track record, however, including in Tuesday's primaries in Florida.
The polling group last did a survey in Alaska in January, when they asked voters about the House and Senate races as well as their sentiments about former Gov. Sarah Palin.
