Thieves bought $3,600 in gas with ASD card

Thieves have racked up more than $3,600 in fraudulent gas purchases on an Anchorage School District-owned fuel card since late June, according to police.

Police say the Fleet One Fuel Card has been used by thieves driving three different vehicles — including a 1970s-era motor home — more than 45 times between June 28 and Aug. 1. They have mostly used the card in Anchorage-area Holiday gas stations, police said.

The card was used 14 times at two stores in particular — the Holiday at 1500 E. 5th Avenue and the one at 285 Muldoon Road. Surveillance cameras have recorded the three vehicles as the occupants buy gas.

The primary suspect vehicle is a green and white early 1970s-era motor home with a plywood compartment door on passenger side, police said.

The second vehicle is a 2000-2006 Silver GMC Sierra extended cab pickup and the third is a red sedan with rims that have a five-spoke star design.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police at 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
