A man wanted in an 1995 Anchorage attempted murder case has been arrested in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania State Police spokeswoman Lt. Myra Taylor confirmed Monday that Adolfo C. Arias, 36, was arrested last week in Berks County.

He had been wanted on an outstanding warrant for more than 13 years.

Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Anita Shell says Arias is charged in the attempted murder of Franco Openiano, who was shot five times in his stomach, legs and thigh in front of his Muldoon-area apartment building in December 1995. Openiano told the authorities who shot him.

Police say two men waited in ambush in a wooded area until Openiano left his home and got into his car.

When Openiano saw the two men approaching, he reached for a rifle he keeps in the back seat of his car for protection. One of the men hit him on the head with a chrome handgun.

Openiano staggered near the front entrance of his apartment building before the men shot him and ran away, police said.

Preston Clark was charged in March 1996 with attempted murder in the shooting but was soon released on bail.

On July 6, 1996, Clark was killed in a gang-related drive-by shooting, according to news reports at the time.
Arias was charged at the same time but skipped out of state, police said.

He was arrested in outside a restaurant in Spring Township and remains jailed at Berks County Prison.
