Justin Birchell. seen in December singing his heart out in Cyrano's "Bark!" in the role of King, it the music director for TBA Theatre's "Illusions: Wild Things," at Grant Hall.
Birchell says the show "is a perennial program in a cirque nouveau style, featuring jugglers, stilt-walkers, acrobats and magicians. However .... this is the first year that Illusions will feature original live music. The musical concept is largely inspired by East Indian Classical Music--not only the modal basis, but also a semi-improvised nature. There are also influences of minimalist composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass, as well as African and Cuban rhythmic elements."
Performances will take place March 19-21 at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
We hear that "Bark!" will be reprised this summer, by the way. The show sold out in it's first run at Cyrano's.
