BB pellets cracked monastery window, police say

A window of a Catholic monastery in South Anchorage was sprayed with projectiles, likely BBs, on Monday night, breaking the glass but not injuring the nuns inside, according to police.

The Blessed Sacrament Monastery at E. 72nd Avenue and Lake Otis Parkway had several holes in a front window following the reports of shots fired about 9:15 p.m., police said.

The projectiles pierced only one layer of the double-paned glass, and police concluded the shots were most likely from a BB gun, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said.

Several nuns were inside the building praying at the time and said they heard a disturbance outside followed by shots fired, she said. None of the nuns was injured.

Shell said no arrests had been made, nor had any suspects been seen in the area.
