An alleged drunken driver involved in a fatal car crash in January has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter, according to the district attorney.
Lawrence Brewer, 39, is accused of killing cab driver Dale Allen Pokarney, 55, on Jan. 30 in a crash at the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and Fireweed Lane, prosecutors said. Brewer, who police say had a blood-alcohol level of more than .2, has also been charged with driving under the influence.
Brewer was initially charged only with manslaughter. Prosecutors say the indictment, in charging him with murder, alleges Brewer acted with extreme indifference to human life when he got behind the wheel of the vehicle.
Brewer is being held with bail set at $50,000 and a third-party custodian requirement.
