Ramras dominates fundraising in lieutenant governor's race

Jay Ramras has raised far more money than his opponents in the race for lieutenant governor, reporting that he brought in over $160,000 in campaign contributions through Feb. 1.

Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell, who Ramras will face in the Aug. 24 Republican primary, raised $30,800. Diane Benson, the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, reported bringing in $10,325.

Ramras’ contributors included New Sagaya grocery owners Paul and Kathleen Reid, former gubernatorial candidate John Binkley, Conoco Phillips Vice President Wendy King, sportfish advocate Bob Penney, outgoing University of Alaska President Mark Hamilton, BP lobbyist Paul Quesnel, Northrim Chairman Marc Langland, Exxon lobbyist Kevin Jardell, the Enstar employee PAC and Trout Unlimited state director Tim Bristol.

Campbell’s list of donors included Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan, Fairbanks snowmachine dealer Craig Compeau, former city attorney Bill Greene, lobbyist Frank Bickford, former North Pole legislator Al Vezey and political activist Tom McGrath.

Benson’s campaign contributors include Anchorage Rep. Berta Gardner, Fairbanks lawyer Rita Allee, and former Anchorage Assembly members Pat Abney and Jane Angvik.
