No surprise here given his national standing -- third among freshmen in points, second in points per game (1.14) -- but UAF winger Andy Taranto today was named to the CCHA's All-Rookie Team.
Taranto leads the streaking Nanooks (8-0-2 in their last 10) with 17-24--41 totals in 36 games -- he rates first on UAF in assists and points, and second in goals.
UAF's Nik Yaremchuk (6-16--22 in 36 games) rated honorable mention status.
The Nanooks (18-9-9), fresh off a first-round playoff sweep of visiting Western Michigan, this week travel to Northern Michigan for a second-round series in Marquette.
UAF today is ranked No. 12 in both national polls. The Nanooks also are tied for seventh in the PairWise Rankings, which mimic seedings for the NCAA Tournament. The Nanooks are seeking their first NCAA bid.
