Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.

Anybody do anything fun during Iditarod start?

Even though this blog is mostly about pets, I feel a little silly ignoring the start of the Iditarod. Did anyone do anything fun? Have any stories to share? Anybody going to the restart? Help me out here. Anyone checking out the dog blog for Iditarod stories will be sorely disappointed!

And as long as I'm on the subject, if you have any cool pictures, share them on our reader-submitted Iditarod gallery at adn.com/iditarod.

As for me, I couldn't drag my, uh, self out of bed early enough for the start, but Kelly went downtown and had a blast. I met her and some Aces-fan-friends over at Sullivan Arena around 11:30 for the last dozen teams or so.

Let me tell you, if you're looking for a tailgate party, just look for Aces fans. Those guys know how to party. They had a fire pit, burgers, dogs, bratwurst, tacos, you name it. The handler on Belgium musher Sam Deltour's team looked like he was urging the musher to stop and join the party.
