Aces Still In Fourth Place (And Ontario Gagged One Up)

After three National Conference games in the ECHL tonight, the Alaska Aces remain fourth in the eight-team division.

That's because second-place Victoria won 5-3 at fifth-place Stockton. In another game, first-place Idaho rocked third-place Bakersfield 5-0 in Boise.

But the game of the night was Las Vegas' 7-6 shootout win over Ontario, which you could look at two ways: Inspiring comeback from the Wranglers, who were down 6-3 with 13-plus minutes left in regulation; Or, momumental gag job by the Reign, who after scoring to go ahead 6-3 promptly gave up a goal 12 seconds later and a penalty-shot goal 70 seconds after that. Ned Lukacevic scored the penalty-shot goal, then added a power-play strike to tie the game.

In the 12-round shootout, Las Vegas won 7-6 as well, when Jerry Pollarstone scored his second goal on his second attempt. Man, that game would have been a blast to watch.

Now, just five points separate fourth-place Alaska (61 points) and Las Vegas and Ontario (tied for seventh with 56 points). In between is fifth-place Stockton (60 points) and sixth-place Utah (59), which like the Aces is idle this weekend.
