Seven Seductresses
Tap Root and Denali Brewing Co, have teamed up for a Seven Seductress’ First Tap series. This week’s featured brew is the Black Pearl, a coconut porter. The Black Pearl is titled after screen actress, jazz performer and human rights activist, Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975).
Over the course of the next year other beers will be developed by Master Brewer Boe Barnett and will be matched with a seductress by Tap Root Owner Rebecca Mohlman. A list of potential seductresses was gathered through Tap Root’s Facebook page, with online friends offering names of women they would like to see featured. It’s still possible to suggest names, as the list is on going and not final.
Brews and seductresses will continue to be paired throughout the year (they’re aiming for seven) and the series is tentatively planned to reach a finale at the Beer and Barley wine Festival in January 2011. The capstone brew will be a collaborative effort between the Denali Brewing Co. and the Ring of Fire Meadery in Homer.
This month’s first tap party will feature live gypsy jazz music provided by the Hot Club of Nunaka, 6 p.m. – 11 p.m Friday at the Tap Root, 1330 Huffman Road. Afterwards, the special brews will be available at other Denali Brewing outlets across town.
