From Erika Bolstad in Washington D.C. --
As lieutenant governor, Sean Parnell's challenge in 2008 of Rep. Don Young gave the veteran congressman one of his biggest electoral scares in years. (Parnell lost the GOP primary to Young, but got the job of governor when then-Gov. Sarah Palin stepped down last summer.)
Now, though, it looks as though they're good buddies -- or at least have something in common, according to Young. He put out a statement today saying he had met this week with Parnell, who was in town for the winter meeting of the National Governors Association.
Here's Young's take on the meeting:
"I had a very productive meeting with Governor Parnell yesterday and I look forward to working with him to address Alaska’s many challenges," said Rep Young. "We share a common bond of being Alaska's lone voice, me in the House of Representatives and he in the National Governors Association. I applaud his desire to work with other Governors and I encourage him to build relationships and friendships, as I have during my Congressional career. That’s how we solve problems, that’s how we get things done for Alaska."
