From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage –
Meg Stapleton said this morning that she’s resigning as the spokesperson and key adviser to Sarah Palin. She said in a brief conversation that her resignation will be effective at the end of the month.
She said she’s leaving the Palin camp because she wants to spend more time with her two and a half year old daughter, Isabella.Stapleton spoke of focusing on things like ice skating and skiing. "I love this state and can’t wait to go share all the incredible opportunities at that perfect age to really get out and have fun, I just want to get out with her,” Stapleton said.
She said there are no plans for her to have any role, either formally or informally, with Palin. "If she asks or needs any advice I'm always happy to give my opinion. But she is a very independent person too. She listens to those around her and makes her own decisions," Stapleton said.
Politico wrote about it this morning. Politico's story quotes from an email Stapleton sent other members of the Palin team announcing the plan:
“While I had hoped to work together on so many more projects, time with my precious 2-year-old has been further minimized with the whirlwind commitments of all things Palin,” she wrote SarahPAC staff. “I have done my best to scale back, but Isabella is now resorting to hiding my BlackBerry, and she shouldn't grow up begging for a mother to start acting like a mother.”
