Teen admits guilt in abuse of 6-year-old

FAIRBANKS (AP) — A 17-year-old Fairbanks boy has pleaded guilty to molesting a 6-year-old girl.

As part of a plea agreement, Jabez Woody will be sentenced in July to 15 years in prison with 10 years suspended. He will be on probation for another 15 years and must register as a sex offender.

Woody surrendered to authorities last summer. According to charging documents, he told Alaska State Troopers the 6-year-old wanted to have sex with him and it was "all her idea."

Teens who are at least 16 years old can be charged as adults if they sexually abuse someone younger than 13.

Superior Court Judge Douglas Blankenship said Thursday there needs to be an emphasis on rehabilitation, given Woody's age. The teen is in a counseling program for sex offenders.
