Play Action Fake

~Play action: A football play, where the offense lines up as if they’re going to run the ball. After the snap, the quarterback fakes a handoff to the running back, who then pretends that he still has the football… But, the QB still has the ball. And throws downfield. ~

Coach Obama is calling for a play action pass.

The President is faking the run (calling for a bipartisan summit on health care) -- while planning to pass for a Democratic touchdown (Big Government health care).

For his part, the president is doing a fine acting job. He talking a lot about bipartisanship (nearly as much as he’s bashing Republicans). He claims to want a bill that both parties agree on…

Of course, the devil is in the… vision. Republicans want to reduce health care costs (so that everyone can pay for health care) while Obama wants massive government-expansion…

A compromise between these two visions would involve starting over, creating a bill that had both Republican and Democratic elements.

But President Obama has publicly stated that he will not start over. The starting point , Obama aides have said, are the House and Senate bills…

So much for compromise…

Today, we learned about the other half of the play. President Obama is planning a pass to Madam Speaker.

Nancy Pelosi’s top aide, Wendell Primus, stated that Pelosi is actively trying to convince Senate Democrats to use reconciliation to pass the Democrat’s health care legislation (Reconciliation is a budgetary maneuver that allows the Senate to bypass the 60-vote filibuster).

Pelosi is, therefore, trying to ram health care through Congress -- even as Obama talks peace with Republicans.

Her aide admitted that the reconciliation maneuver is a “trick.”

Well, at least he’s honest…

By even considering reconciliation, Dems are turning their backs on 61% of Americans who want Congress to start over. They are giving the bird to the American people; choosing to represent the whopping 28% who still want the current health care bill.

Go democracy…

By their actions, the President and Congressional Dems are showing their true feelings for the American public. They believe that they’re right; we’re wrong. They alone have the true answer, while rest of us are uninformed imbeciles, bereft of all cognitive coherence (I guess we’re just clinging to our “guns and religion…”).

This arrogance was apparent in President Obama’s State of the Union Address. In the speech, Obama blamed himself for the health care bill’s failure. Not because the bill was high-tax or budget-busting… No, the president took blame for not better “explaining” the health bill.

In other words, we, Americans, were not intelligent enough to understand the president’s immaculate reasoning…

In a further insult, Obama wants hold a false bipartisan summit, believing that we will not see through his (and Pelosi’s) plan.

Now, at this health care summit, Republicans will probably propose something along the lines of Rep Paul Ryan’s plan. Paul’s health care bill calls for the reformation of “discriminatory tax rules” which would then “ensur(e) that everyone gets the same tax benefits for the purchase of health care regardless of where they obtain that care.”

Under Ryan’s plan, “every American” would receive “an advanceable, refundable tax credit with which to purchase portable health insurance.”

Obama will never go for this one. It would lower both costs and taxes. It would give more health care options. And, worst of all, big government would not be the answer (gasp).

Republicans may call for a plan that’s even more compromising: tort reform, insurance that can be bought across state lines, and catastrophic health coverage.

All these measures would help the American people.

But none of these will meet the presidents starting point, which is nearly-universal-coverage-for-all-people-no-matter-what.

And so the Obama will be oppose the Republican’s plans.

Which will give the President the perfect opportunity to come out and bemoan Washington’s broken system. His Senate will then we be – sigh -- forced to use reconciliation to pass health care…

Oh, it’s a crafty plan. A play straight from the football field. Fake the run (bipartisanship); plan to throw (reconciliation).

It’s too bad the American people will see right through it.
