A homeless man was beaten and robbed of his jacket and shoes by a carload of people who offered him a ride in Mountain View, according to Anchorage police.
The victim, Alfonzo Cano, reported he had been walking near Thompson and Hoyt streets about 8 p.m. Tuesday when a light-colored Chevrolet Suburban pulled up and its six occupants offered him a ride to the Red Apple Market on Bragaw Street, police said.
Cano, who was intoxicated, said he got into the back seat but the driver stopped after going only a block. The occupants then pulled him from the vehicle, beat him and stole his leather jacket, shoes and cash, police said.
He was left shoe-less and without a jacket on the side of the road as the robbers took off, police said. Cano called police immediately, but officers couldn’t find the attackers.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
