Juneau man's nose bitten off in attack, suspects wanted

Juneau police are investigating the case of a man with a missing nose and are trying to figure out who may have bitten it off — and why.

Police say they were dispatched to a possible assault about 2 a.m. today to find the 40-year-old victim, who was not named, missing the tip of his nose.

The man was not cooperative and would not tell police how he lost a chunk of his nose, though he did say he had been attacked by one or more people, Juneau police spokeswoman Cindee Brown-Mills said in a statement.

“Due to the nature of the wound, officers are investigating the possibility the nose was bitten off,” Brown-Mills said. “Officers located the missing piece of nose in the downtown Marine Park area and rushed it to (Bartlett Regional Hospital) for hospital staff to evaluate whether or not it could be reattached.”

The man was treated at the hospital, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether the nose could be reattached.

Police are calling the attack a felony assault and are asking help solving the case. Anyone with information is asked to call police in Juneau at 586-0600.

Callers can remain anonymous by calling the Juneau Crime Line at 586-4243.
