Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.
Your host: Mike Lewis is a little-dog nerd and the proud owner of Eddie and Jillian, a pair of Yorkies who think they're huskies, and Lucy, a sweet Chessie. R.I.P., Rusty. Contact mlewis@adn.com

Adoptions of the week: Meet Rufus and revisit Alize

Here's Anchorage Animal Care and Control's Adoption of the Week, courtesy of Brooke Taylor, AAACC's public relations coordinator.

Here is Rufus, an older adult, neutered male, Chinese Sharpei mix.  This friendly guy has a lovable, curious personality that will win you over in a heartbeat. He is housetrained very well and loves to go out for walks. He is easy to handle and though he is older, still has lots of energy. He is calm and quiet and did well in a recent Shelter Dog Playgroup.
He is a big fan of Southside Animal Hospital, as they recently donated their services to provide his neuter and remove a growth on his eyelid.  Due to the eye surgery, he does have stitches that will need to come out in a few weeks and needs to have regular veterinary care.  He can be adopted for $72, as he is already neutered, which covers his MOA license, vaccinations, and microchip.

ALIZE IS STILL LOOKING FOR A HOME
Here is Alize, a 5-year-old, spayed female, pit bull mix. Alize has been here at AACCC for three months now. Though there is no time limit on how long she stays with us, and her spirits are still high, all of the staff and volunteers here would love to see her find her forever home.  She has definitely stolen all our hearts.

Alize can be very barky in her kennel, but if you take a moment to meet her, you’ll see immediately why she is a favorite with everyone here at the shelter. This sweet and happy girl is great on walks and has done well in Shelter Dog Playgroups with the other dogs. She enjoys playing and running in the snow and exploring new scents.  She is VERY smart, attentive, and listens well.

Alize knows “sit”, “lay down”, can shake with both paws, and has wonderful manners.  She is the star student in our Shelter Dog Training Class each week.  She is very friendly and easy-going and would make a great companion.  Alize can be adopted for $72, as she is already spayed, which includes her MOA license, vaccinations, and microchip.
