Kilcher plays Hawaiian princess

Q’orianka Kilcher, of Homer Kilcher lineage, has the lead role of Hawaiian Princess Ka’iulana in the new film "Barbarian Princess." It’s billed as "The true story of a Hawaiian princess’ attempts to maintain the independence of the island against the threat of American colonization" and includes, in the big cast, well-known actors like Barry Pepper ("Saving Pivate Ryan," "The Green Mile," "We were Soldiers," "The Dale Earnhardt Story").

"Barbarian Princess" is scheduled to be screened at the film festival taking place at the Alaska Native Heritage Center Feb. 5 and 6. Kilcher also starred as Pocohantas in the film "The New World," which also featured Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Christian Bale and Wes Studi. According to organizer Phillip Blanchett, Kilcher will attend the Anchorage screening. He also tells us that one of the producers is a graduate of West High School.
