Strong bodies: fitness & health

This blog will cover all city and statewide bodybuilding competitions and the out-of-state guest posers. Weight-loss success stories from local people, features/bios on bodybuilding, fitness and figure competitors, coverage of fad diets. Nutritious recipes and reviews on local gyms and health food stores. I would also like to cover Adult/Childhood Obesity in America and specifically,Alaska. Weight-lifting techniques/safety as well as the benefits for women. This is just a general idea, as the blog will be constantly evolving.

Stevia: The other sweetener

There are so many artificial sweeteners out there today, splenda, equal, and sweet and low to name just a few. Although it's nice to have so many options when trying to watch your caloric intake, who knows what's REALLY in these chemicals we're consuming? For those wanting to avoid the calories as well as the chemicals, check out Stevia for an alternative sweetener.

Stevia is an herb found in South America that has been used as a sweetener by the Guarani Indians of Paraguay for hundreds of years. The leaves of the small, green Stevia rebaudiana plant have a delectable and refreshing taste that can be 30 times sweeter than sugar.

Avoiding sugar in the diet is especially important for diabetics and those working to lose excess body fat. Stevia can be purchased in small packets (like splenda), liquid and powder form. It's easy to exchange for pure sugar while baking- the only difference is it's calorie free!

Locally, you can find Stevia at GNC, Natural Pantry and even Walmart.
