Palmer teen educates on dangers of smoking

Lillian Cooks: A Colony student organized an anti-tobacco demonstration at the Alaska State Fair.Lillian Cooks: A Colony student organized an anti-tobacco demonstration at the Alaska State Fair.Lillian Cooks, a student at Colony High School in Palmer, was nominated for a Spirit of Youth award for her work to educate people about the dangers of smoking. She got her motivation when her grandfather died of lung cancer. This past summer she organized a demonstration at the fair, cutting out 1,200 paper figures, representing Americans who die each day from tobacco use.
