Today the ADN is launching a new online pets page, and I, for one, am excited about it. It includes some cool features that I have been unable to properly address and display on the blog. While adn.com/pets is not designed to replace the blog, the Dog Blog is featured on the page.
One of things I like best about it is it prominently displays the pets category of the ADN's community calendar. You'll be able to see what events are coming up, and, better yet, you're one click away from submitting your own event for the calendar. You can submit pet events or other community events from the same link. I'll be adding events as well, but I'd encourage everyone to use the calendar so pet owners know what events are coming up.
Here's a look at some of the other features available on adn.com/pets.
Best of reader-submitted photos: Each week, we'll feature some of the best new reader pictures submitted to our dog, cat and horse galleries. The pictures are generally larger than you'll see on the galleries themselves, and there are links at the end to all the reader-submitted pet galleries and to upload your own.
Pet Events: If you're planning an event, click on the "Enter your event" link. Current events will be listed on the pets home page, and readers can find future events by clicking on the "More pet events" link. When you enter your event, but sure to choose "Pets" as the event category to make it appear on adn.com/pets. If details of the event you submitted change, you can edit those details later.
Dog Blog: This section shows the most recent Dog Blog topics and allows you to go directly to the blog quickly.
Pet videos: This will feature some of the best locally submitted pet videos and also provide a link to upload your own. If we don't get enough local submissions, I'll feature one from the Web. You can suggest Web videos for this space also.
Pets in the news: Current wire-service stories about pets will be posted here.
Local pets looking for a home The current SPCA Critter Corner and Friends of Pets Pet Patrol will appear here. We also will feature a links here to a full page of adoptable pets from local adoption agencies.
Pet galleries: Find links to our pet galleries.
Pet classified ads Current pet classified advertisements. As with those appearing in the paper, let the buyer beware.
Lost and found pets: Current listings from the Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center.
Hope you enjoy the new page for our pets.
