Peter Porco's new play "Wind Blown and Dripping" encountered serious problems when the actor in the lead role opened the show before memorizing his lines. There were (dim) hopes that the situation might improve, but they faded as the performer continued to carry the script around in his hands.
Last week, director Richard Reichman stepped into the role and, according to Cyrano's producer Sandy Harper, "the play is a whole different experience."
Reichman is a stage veteran who tends to know his scripts inside and out. He's also been directing the play and working with the playwright just about from the beginning of the project, so we expect the problem is resovled, even if in mid-run.
"Wind Blown" is a historical play about novelist Dasheill Hammett's stint in the Aleutians during WWII, as the editor of an army post newspaper. It continues at Cyrano's 413 D St., at 7 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 3 p.m. Sun. through Jan. 24. Tickets are available at centertix.net.
