Knew Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Carle of Anchorage was enjoying a terrific season, but I didn't know it was this good: He entered tonight leading the NHL in plus-minus with a +18 rating in 20 games.
That's better than the runner-up, winger Zach Parise (+15) of New Jersey, or the No. 3 guy, Chris Pronger (+13), who is Carle's defensive partner.
Carle has only been a minus in two games this season. He's also making an offensive contribution -- 2-12--14 totals in 20 matches, which ties him for 11th in points among league defensemen -- and his average ice time of 24:15 per game ranks 21st in the league. Pronger leads with 26:47 per night.
