Well, it wasn't a masterpiece -- 30 saves on 35 shots rarely is -- but Toledo rookie goaltender Jordan Pearce of Anchorage stopped Kalamazoo's undefeated start to the ECHL season at six games.

Toledo beat Kalamazoo 7-5 tonight to knock the K-Wings (6-1-0) out of the unbeaten ranks. Been a tough pro start for Pearce, who is 2-1-0 with a 4.67 goals-against average and .851 save percentage.

Meanwhile, former Alaska Aces goalie Chris Holt kept Elmira (7-0-0) among the unbeatens with 25 saves in a 4-1 win over Trenton. Holt is 4-0-0 with a 1.74 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.

Idaho (6-0-0) is the other unbeaten ECHL team -- and the Steelheads lead the Aces 2-1 through one period as this is written.

And in the American Hockey League, former UAF goalie Chad Johnson picked up his first pro shutout. The rookie stopped 17 shots to help Hartford dispatch visiting Providence 7-0 -- Hartford outshot Providence 48-17. Johnson is 3-3-0 with a 3.04 goals-against average and .885 save percentage.

Also, former UAA goalie Nathan Lawson keeps rocking. He stopped 27 shots for Bridgeport in a 3-2 win at Portland. Lawson is 3-2-0 with a 1.81 goals-against average and .944 save percentage. Last year for Bridgeport, he went 19-9-0, 2.16 and .927 to make the AHL All-Rookie Team and earn himself an NHL deal from the parent New York Islanders.
