Police in Juneau saw some action earlier this afternoon when an irate man with two umbrellas started throwing things at an officer. Here's a press release police just sent out:
On 10/02/2009, at approximately 4:26 pm, the Juneau Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a male subject walking from Franklin Street to the State Office Building. The man was screaming obscenities and swinging two umbrellas. The male was later identified as 41 year old Juneau resident Warren VITALE. Once at the State Office Building VITALE accessed the 8th floor
balcony and stood on the outside ledge.
At approximately 4:36 pm, Juneau Police officers contacted VITALE. He was screaming obscenities and refused to say why he was upset. While speaking
with officers VITALE threw the two umbrellas and a backpack at one officer, almost striking him.
After approximately 15 minutes of being on the outside ledge VITALE returned to the balcony and was placed in handcuffs. VITALE was arrested for three counts
of Assault on a Police Officer.
VITALE was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital and then to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center where he was held on $3,000 bail.
