The Rambles are cut short this Friday by Oktoberfest obligations. But here's what I'd try to get a look at if I were you.
Art asks the big questions: Mariano Gonzales at APUArt asks the big questions: Mariano Gonzales at APU
Mariano Gonzales' work is always interesting, and we're betting his show at APU's ConocoPhillips Gallery will keep the series going. It coincides with some very interesting-looking paintings by Joh Wilcox next door in the Grant Hall space.

"Marginalia" closes this weekend and there's a late First Friday "closing" reception starting at 7 p.m. tonight at MTS Gallery, 3142 Mt. View Drive.

"This is Displacement" is a curated exhibit of contemporary paintings by Native Americans - including some Alaskans - opening tonight at Out North, 3800 DeBarr Rd. Juror Carolyn Anderson also painted this picture of a tree/woman figure. Music by Blackfish; should also be interesting.
Questions of identity, botanical and otherwise.: Caroline Anderson curated the show and included this painting to "This is Displacement" at Out North.Questions of identity, botanical and otherwise.: Caroline Anderson curated the show and included this painting to "This is Displacement" at Out North.
Douglas Yates' photographs continue to be shown at the odd little ARC gallery inside UAA/APU Consortium Library - actually, just before you enter the secutiry gates to the library itself. You need to look hard to find it.

Downtown, Don Decker, fresh from earning his master's degree, is displaying what he learned at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art, 427 D St. Lynda Infante-Lyons is among the artists featured at Artique Ltd. King Island's Maurice Nattanguk is showing carvings at Aurora Fine Art Gallery.

And we've often admired the bright and personable work of Sindra Wolfsen. Her latest series, "Secret Garden" can be seen at the Whale's Tail in the Hotel Captain Cook.
