The rage of the American people is not an orchestrated illusion. It is also not a “food fight” as it has been called by presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs.
Harry Reid has called the efforts “sabotage.”
Nancy Pelosi has called the efforts “un-American."
Anybody remember the Democrats whining about having their patriotism questioned in the past?
The Democrats are making it clear they believe in freedom of speech as long as it agrees with them. Conservative speakers are constantly heckled when they show up to universities to speak. For years, the rhetoric regarding George W. Bush was harsh and over the top. None of this ever bothered Ms. Pelosi or Mr. Reid. They have been too busy figuring out a way to muzzle talk radio.
The true colors on the left side of the debate are being exposed. How about this gem from Paul Krugman:
It was only a matter of time before the left started complaining that opposition to Obama had to be racist. A tried and true strategy when things do not go as planned.
The Democrat talking points are obvious. Opposition to the health care plan is misinformation. Opposition to the health care plan is racism. Opposition to the health care plan is greed. Opposition to the health care plan is all special interests.
So, that means the Democrats produce only good information? And they get no money from anybody? All of it is partisan bologna.
I watched most of President Obama’s town hall meeting yesterday. I had to read the rest of it today because the other physician in the house kept shouting at the television.
Obama has seen the backlash to the outrageous comments made by Reid and Pelosi. He is trying to turn the volume down a bit. He is acknowledging that there is room for debate. That is only half the story.
Obama is still not being straight with the American people. Here is a quote as an example:
…we will do all of this without adding to our deficit over the next decade, largely by cutting waste and ending sweetheart deals for insurance companies that don't make anybody any healthier.
This is complete rhetoric. If you believe this statement by Obama, you also would likely believe me if I told you it was going to be 70 degrees out on December 15th in Anchorage this year.
For one thing, later in the meeting he points out the program will cost money. He admits that it will require higher taxes to do it. Can he really say there will be no added deficit?
The other example that blows this comment away is Massachusetts. The plan is costing more than expected. Funding is being cut to the providers of the care. Boston University’s medical center is actually suing the state over funding. Massachusetts has also had to cut off coverage to legal immigrants originally part of the plan. And Massachusetts started with 7% uninsured, not 17%.
Obama did mention getting rid of Medicare advantage programs which is a great idea. The problem is the rest of his waste arguments are hollow and beyond the scope here. And he never really explained what a "sweetheart insurance deal" was yesterday.
Sarah Palin’s “death panel” comment got play. The “pulling the plug on grandma” as Obama called it. The issue has been distorted on the right without question. The thing is nobody with an IQ higher than 90 takes Palin seriously. I think Bill Maher had it right when he joked Palin could have a serious problem if the country passes a law pulling the plug on the brain dead.
However, one of Obama’s other arguments was Social Security being called “socialist” when FDR pushed it. That is true. And guess what, it is going bankrupt just like Medicare.
The Democrats have always scared retirees by saying the Republicans want to take away Social Security. It is usually in the context of reforms being proposed. Those arguments are every bit as ill-informed and dishonest as the one made by Sarah Palin.
The Democrats really should recruit Palin. She loves to raise taxes on industry. She loves to balloon out budgets. She is a big advocate of government handouts, especially the $1200 kind. She even likes the government involved in things they should not be like dairies. And now, best of all, she even likes scaring the over-65 population.
An advertising campaign is about to begin in support of the health care bill. It is being financed largely by lobbyists for the pharmaceutical industry. It has many on the left in a tizzy.
There are groups such as the AARP who Obama used as a prop yesterday that profit as much as anybody from the system. He also used the AMA as a prop as if they represent the physician on the street.
It would be nice to take the president at his word when he says he wants true debate. The problem is he and his party took things like tort reform off the table before the debate even began. They are playing nice in the sandbox now but their initial reaction to protesters was disgraceful. Now, they appear to be looking for strange bedfellows to save political face and pass something.
Both parties have their masters. Both are only interested in “winning.” Both are for sale to the highest bidder. Neither is free of influence.
Debate? What's that? No wonder people are angry.
This is no way to run a country and it is no way to fix health care.
